The Arsenal Stadium Mystery
By Leonard R Gribble
GCR Books presents The Arsenal Stadium Mystery by Leonard R Gribble.
It’s 1939 and League Champions Arsenal are hosting top amateur side The Trojans in a friendly match at Arsenal Stadium in front of 70,000 spectators. Shortly after half-time one of the Trojan players collapses on the pitch and dies minutes later in the Stadium’s treatment room. The police are called and Inspector Anthony Slade of Scotland Yard arrives to investigate the death and soon discovers that he’s looking for a murderer.
Inspector Slade follows clues up and down the country and tries to piece them all together with the help of the willing, but not altogether bright, Sergeant Clinton. There is no shortage of suspects but Slade gradually builds his case, closes in on the killer and sets a trap in the hope of catching his man.
Initially published in 1939 and republished in 1950 under the title The Arsenal Stadium Mystery – A Replay this book was the first football-related thriller and enjoys cult-status in football-book circles. The book was made into a film in 1939 but has been out-of-print for almost 70 years. Now, thanks to GCR Books, the book is again available for all football fans and lovers of classic murder mystery to enjoy.
