There are a list of top European races but the Qatar Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe is renowned as the premier race. With bumper prize money that has risen to €5 million it is targeted by horses from all around the world. This means that it has been won by some of the top horses across the years and none other than the mighty Sea Bird back in 1965.

Sea Bird finished its career as the second highest rated horse in history with a mark of 147 only behind the untouchable Frankel. He finished his career with 7 victories in his 8 appearances and the other finishing runner up.  Sea Bird was awarded the British Horse of the Year in 1965 and amassed €646,906 throughout his career.

His two key victories that will be remembered are his Epsom Derby and Arc wins. He went into the Derby as the 7/4 favourite and won on the bridle by two lengths as his jockey didn’t have to move. This was followed by his Arc win in which he went off as the 6/5 favourite. He again won easily even taking into account he veered across the track in the closing stages which did not help his chances at all. The infographic below will cover the Arc and why it is Europe’s premier race. You can check out the latest horse racing betting as the end of the flat season comes to an end.
