About Cliff Bastin Remembers
Cliff bastin joined Arsenal from Exeter City in 1929 at the age of seventeen. Within three years he had helped Arsenal to their first F.A. Cup win and first League Championship success. He was also capped for England - the first of twenty-one international appearances in which he scored twelve goals.
By the end of his career with Arsenal in 1947, Bastin had collected five League Championship medals and two F.A. Cup winners medals in addition to his England caps. In doing so he scored 178 goals for Arsenal - a record that was to stand until 1997.
World War Two robbed Bastin of his best playing years and by the time league football restarted his career was all but over. Nervertheless Bastin's pre-war achievements assured his place among the footballing giants and as an Arsenal legend. This book tells his story.
