"I got back to Winch Wen in the early hours of the morning. What with Les Morris weaving plans for my future, it had been a remarkably swift train journey, but most of my excitement had evaporated by now. Thus it was with some calm that I was able to tell my parents that I had signed for the Arsenal. Naturally enough, they were delighted."
Jack Kelsey joined Arsenal in 1949 from the Swansea and District League side Winch Wen and stayed with Arsenal for 14 seasons, making 352 league and cup appearances and helping the side to the First Division title in 1952-53. He was capped 41 times for Wales between 1954 and 1962 including their participation at the World Cup finals in 1958. Only David Seaman has played more times in goal for Arsenal. Kelsey remains one or the Club’s all-time great goalkeepers and as an Arsenal legend his image rightfully hangs on the fascade of the Emirates Stadium.
